How to Measure for Blinds Like a Pro

Inside Recess vs Outside Recess

Your windows will most likely be recessed into the walls which means they don’t sit flush. This gives you the choice to mount them inside the recess or outside the recess.

Measuring for Recess Fitting

Below shows the 2 options you have for measuring your blinds. All we need is the width and the height. Simple as that!

Outside Recess

Measure the width of the window you would like your blind to cover, for the best results allow the blind to overlap the edges of the recess by at least 50mm on each side – ensuring that you have enough space to accommodate the suggested overlap.

Decide where you want the bottom of your blind to end and measure the length of the window from the top of the fitting to this point.

Inside Recess

Take the first measurements across the top of the window inside the recess to give the width of the blind, then the second from the top to the bottom of the recess to give the drop of the blind.

Tip: If your window opens inwards or the recess is less than 60mm then you will be better with an outside recess fitting.

To complement our free sample service we also supplement all our clients with free visual proofs. These are created by our in-house graphic designer and allow you to see your Printed Blinds “in scale”. These can be adjusted/changed as many times as required until we get them just the way you want them. There are no charges for set up or alterations.
